Life can be hard because wisdom is relative. Knowledge can be hard because intelligence is relative. Love can be hard because emotions are irrational. Truth can be hard because understanding requires acceptance. Discipline can be hard because a body at rest tend to stay at rest (this includes mental drag).
Where life is concern, knowledge, love, truth and discipline makes it hard to overcome life because every one of us are born not equal. When I mean not equal, I am referring to being born in different nationalities, different races, different family backgrounds, different intelligence and abilities. Hence our upbringing differs from country to country, culture to culture, family to family, and people to people.
So when is hard the good?
Hard is the good when we know the truth, have the discipline to follow the ethics to lead a virtuous life, having the courage to face adversity with love, developing wisdom in diversity and understanding that life is about the endless travels only to arrive at death – death can only be the most luxurious form of life when humans do not kill each other in wars, provided that we plan well ahead for that day. Life is being born, growing up with growing pains, falling sick and then finally death. If you are confident that you do not need healthcare because you eat moderately and nutritious, able to cope with stress well and exercises regularly to stay healthy, then death might not be the most luxurious form of life for you because you are lucky to die in your sleep (your heart just stop beating when you are old and feeble).
Hard is the Good when we know that wealth is an intermediate good so that we use it wisely and open-heartedly to benefit not just our loved ones but also those who need it more than us. Hard is the Good when we are poor materially but our souls are rich because our minds are filled with truths and knowledge to guide us to help those who are less capable than us and at the same time, aid those who are Good (with wealth and intelligence) to use wealth as an intermediate good so that we can create a better world that is inclusive of humans and nature.
Hard is the Good when we do not deny others of freedom and their human rights. Hard is the Good when we accept our limitations. Hard is the Good when we co-exist to love. Hard is the Good when we make sure our posterity knows that earth is a place we can learn, live and play. Hard is the Good when technologies converge to bridge language barrier and connect people. Hard is the Good when laws are created to make us good. Hard is the Good when laws are enforced justly. Hard is the Good when Lady justice is not only blind-folded but also weighs in on the facts and claims. Hard is the Good when the daughter of Dike is aided by the goddess of Justice, Themis, to use the power of Reason and Justice (double-edged sword) to wield either for or against any party. Hard is the Good when we accept our sins and allow justice to be served.
Hard is the Good when we fight the good fight. How hard is your life?
